The journey of Love and Hatred emerged in 1983 when the streets of Sydney were tempered with a creative restlessness and an artistic freedom. Born of Italian descent, Giovanni D’Ercole, was inspired to bring more meaning and beauty into the world. Following his instincts, he stepped apart from the mainstream and opened his own gallery – now located in the heart of Sydney at The Strand Arcade where a showcase of his distinctive jewellery can be experienced.

Guided by his insightful intuition and a natural penchant for design, Giovanni called upon his linage of fine craftmanship and intrigue of historical beauty, to begin his multifaceted empire. Architectural detail and design has been a life long passion of Giovanni’s and its influence can be seen throughout his work as a designer and an artist.

The last 29 years of Love and Hatred has seen Giovanni’s legion of loyal fans grow rapidly due to the flourishing of unique finishes and signature pieces. In the early days of designer themed clothing to today’s heart inspiring jewellery. From Sydney, where it all began to his private clientele of international musicians and artists alike. The name Love and Hatred comes from a beautiful quote from the enlightened Buddha – ‘Hatreds never cease by hatreds in this world … by love alone they cease.’ This is the very essence of Giovanni’s life and his creative work. Giovanni strongly believes in the mythology of jewellery as powerful talismans of love, hope and passion.
